MESDI and Rotary Club of River Ayeyarwady (RCRA) Sign MOU to Cooperate on Environmental Conservation and Sustainable Development

YANGON, 28 May 2026 – The Myanmar Environmental and Sustainable Development Initiative (MESDI), an organization dedicated to fostering environmental protection, community resilience, and sustainable development practices across Myanmar, officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Rotary Club of River Ayeyarwady (RCRA) on 28 May 2026 to establish a framework for cooperation in the field of environment.

The MOU was signed by Mr. Thein Soe, Chairman of MESDI, and Mr. Aung Ko Win, Charter President of RCRA. The partnership will remain in effect for an initial duration of one year.

Key areas of cooperation under this agreement include:

Reforestation & Biodiversity: Collaborating on tree-planting drives and local ecosystem restoration projects.

Waste Management Education: Conducting community and school-level training sessions on reducing plastic waste, recycling, and sustainable consumption practices.

Climate Resilience: Organizing capacity-building workshops to empower vulnerable communities to adapt effectively to environmental changes.

Through this strategic alliance, RCRA will utilize its robust network to mobilize volunteers, conduct community outreach, and assist in resource mobilization and fundraising efforts. MESDI will lead the ground-level implementation, providing technical expertise, environmental assessments, project design, and educational materials.

“By combining RCRA’s incredible mobilization network and resources with MESDI’s technical expertise, we aim to maximize project impacts and address the urgent environmental challenges in Myanmar ,” said Mr. Thein Soe, Chairman of MESDI. “This partnership represents a significant step forward in building a greener and more resilient future for our communities.”

The signing ceremony was held at The Raw Coffee & Lounge on U Wisara Road, Yangon. The event was attended by the Chairman of MESDI, alongside the Immediate Past Chairman, Vice Chairman, and Central Executive Committee members. Representing RCRA were the Charter President, President-Elect, Charter Secretary, and other Club Officers.
